Palin's Pregnant Daughter in the News

Many Americans woke up Monday morning to reports like this one – that GOP VP pick Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter was pregnant. Not only did they tell us that she was five months into the pregnancy, but that she is planning to keep the baby and marry the father.

So how did the Obama campaign respond to this news? With harsh words for those who try to make it relevant.

During a campaign stop in Monroe, Michigan, he said, “Let me be as clear as possible. I think people’s families are off-limits, and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor or her potential performance as a vice president.”

Which begs the question: Has the media gone too far?

This election appears to be the most covered election ever, at least in our generation. But where does one draw the line? Regardless of your political leanings, think of this girl, 17-year-old Bristol Palin. The whole world now knows her story.

Is that right? Is it really the media’s place to put these stories in the forefront, or report them at all?
