Youth Voter Websites

While major news network and political websites offer helpful information about the 2008 Presidential Campaign, the youth of America might look for something that caters specifically to them. The websites listed below are made for youth voters and provide information on various issues discussed by the candidates. Some of the websites also offer free online membership as well as group invites to social network sites.

Rock the Vote was established in 1992 to raise political awareness among America's youth by fusing pop culture and politics. Musicians have actively participated in the organization's efforts to attract youth voters. The website offers a music playlist, its own blog, links to register to vote, and information on issues that effect America today. www.rockthevote.com/home.html

Similarly, Declare Yourself is a nonprofit campaign to get the youth of America registered to vote and take action on election day. The website offers more information on the basics such as defining political terms, information on multiple presidential candidates (not only Republican and Democrat), and also has what the two main candidates have said on various issues. http://www.declareyourself.com/home/home.html

Do Something.org is a website that seeks to empower teenagers by inspiring them to take action. Although, this website is not specifically for voting, it still offers current news on the campaign for teen voters as well as information on how they can go about to start a campaign for political awareness on their own. http://www.dosomething.org/

Youth Noise is a social network site, with an emphasis on raising national and global awareness. This site offers resources for first-time and/or veteran voters about the presidential candidates and their stance on various issues. They provide videos, polls, and offer blogs to open up dialogue among youth voters. http://www.youthnoise.com/cp.php?cp_id=10
