McCain Supporters Gear Up for Election Day

Left to Right: John McCain supporters Ari Dana, Allison Huff and Joshua Sharp encouraging students to register to vote outside of the Annenberg lobby.

A group of students established advocacy group USC Students for McCain during the summer, in the nick of time to mobilize more supporters, get students registered, and clarify Sen. John McCain's stance on national issues before election day.

In partnership with USC College Republicans, the newly formed organization plans to participate in a number of platform debates with USC Students for Barack Obama for the next eight weeks, giving students the opportunity to openly discuss and evaluate the presidential candidates.

Allison Huff, co-chair with Joshua Sharp, will be writing an editorial for the Daily Trojan, representing John McCain's platform.

Each week, a representative from both campaigns will publish an editorial in the Daily Trojan to analyze specific issues, such as education, health care, or the war in Iraq. Students can attend a follow-up discussion at Ground Zero later that same week to ask questions, said Dan Schnur, the recently appointed director of the Jesse Unruh Institute of Politics and former communications director for McCain.

This is really good info. I think it will be helpful for students to read pieces by fellow students about candidates in the Daily Trojan. These students should address issues that pertain to "Virgin Voters" or issues that young people care about like abortion, the future of the economy, and global warming among others.

I covered the Annenberg discussion before McCain's acceptance speech to fulfill the Spot News requirement.

I also added the Schmap widget to the side of the blog, which shows automatically updated polls for each state.
