Dress you up in partisan love: the campaign t-shirt in the 2008 election

Across the nation, people are wearing their political hearts on their proverbial sleeves.

In the last century, the t-shirt surpassed the button as the staple campaign garment. Since its rise to ubiquity, the campaign tee has made political awareness and involvement fashionable, especially among younger voters.

Entire websites were created to produce and sell campaign apparel. Popular youth clothiers such as uber alternative Urban Outfitters have also jumper onto political bandwagon to capitalize on candidate fervor.

While most of these retailers do not contribute to campaign efforts, all of the proceeds from the Barack Obama and John McCain official website stores help fund their respective presidential campaigns.

Meriah, I sent you an e-mail about helping me embed the show as a button/link to flickr. I know it is incorrectly formatted at the moment. Aside from that, I hoped to use this post a feature and slideshow piece. Total, there are about 400 words of text (intro, captions), 10 photos and three hyperlinks. The websites from which the photos are borrowed are included in the captions.

Those were really cool t-shirts! I think it also shows that younger people are becoming more politically aware as students are wearing clothing about presidential campaigns.
