USC EVENT: With voting rules, did the right candidate win?

The voting rule problems are abundant and many difficulties present themselves each election year, which makes you wonder if the elected candidate is indeed the one voters hoped to elect.

Donald Saari, UCI Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and Economics, will be speaking to this issue and outlining the voting rule problems. The lecture will help students and faculty understand why there are problems and if the rule is in place for good reason.

Voting rules are standard for an array of aggregation rules like statistics to social sciences to engineering. Today, Saari will talk about the mathematical structure behind voting rules, while demonstrating how they explain all of the voting problems.
