To Bubbie's House We Go

What's the key to bubbie and zadie's (Yiddish for grandma and grandpa) hearts? Their grandchildren, of course.

Comedian Sarah Silverman is running a campaign which attempts to utilize the pull grandchildren have on their grandparents in an effort to get elderly, Jewish, and particularly those from Floridia, to vote for Barack Obama. The campaign, the Great Schlep, begins Oct. 10 and ends Oct. 13.

Silverman uses her humor, albeit potentially politically incorrect, to cater to young voters and urge them to "schelp over to Florida and tell [their] grandparents to vote Obama." She tells viewers in her video message that she wants to prevent what happened two election seasons ago "when a little man named Al Gore got f****ed by Florida."

The Florida Jewish vote has been seen as critical player in elections ever since the infamous 2000 Florida Recount, which was an extensive reexamination of Florida, demanded by Gore, the Democratic presidential nominee at the time.

The Great Schlep is sponsored by the Jewish Council for Education and Research, a federal political action committee, which focuses on and educates on issues important to the Jewish community.
